6 Things Actors Should Know About Writing an Instagram Bio
Drawn from what is actually said on camera, so you can decide whether to
spend the 3:16 watching it.
You get less than a second online
In person you have about seven seconds to make a first impression. Online it is under a second. Your bio is one of the first things a person sees when they click into your account, so it has to pull them in and give them a reason to follow.
Use career keywords even though they are not searchable
Say plainly whether you are an actor, dancer or singer. Instagram does not make bio keywords searchable, but people are trained by other platforms to scan for them, so the words still help visitors key in on what you do.
Beyond the job title, tell people something that sets you apart or something you are passionate about. That passion does not have to be industry related. Your bio does not need to be all about acting.
Start with the bio you already have on Twitter and carry the keywords, passions and points of difference across. Consistent language across platforms builds brand recognition so people recognize you wherever they find you.
On an Apple device there is no return key inside the Instagram bio field. Write the bio in your Notes app instead, where you can hit return, add spacing and drop in emojis, then select it, copy it and paste it into Instagram.
Emojis are the language of the platform and are fully acceptable in an actor's bio. Just keep the ones you pick consistent with the career and brand you are presenting.
