Casting sites carry fewer opportunities for union actors than for non-union actors. The ones that do post usually offer more compensation and the chance to build relationships with established or up-and-coming industry professionals.

Union competition assumes professional-level work

Submitting as a union actor means more competition, because your work is expected to be at a professional level. That raises the bar on what your profile has to do to stand out at all.

Carry several looks tied to your type and essence

By this stage you should already know the characters you play and the genres you fit, and your headshots should reflect that with different looks. They need to be professionally shot. No Facebook pictures.

Break your reel into clips, not one long file

Professional-quality demo clips give you an edge when casting has limited time. Broken-down clips are specifically recommended over a single full reel.

No footage makes union auditions much harder

At this level, getting auditions with no footage is very difficult. If you have managed to land a few without any, you are fortunate rather than typical.

Okay acting on a self-recorded clip hurts you

Avoid unprofessional self-recorded material where the acting is only passable. It may seem obvious, but weak footage on the profile works against the submission.

Stop measuring your results against other actors
