Three submission habits that cost casting time, and how to avoid them when you self-submit from online casting sites.

4 Things Actors Should Know About Submitting Without Wasting Casting's Time

Drawn from what is actually said on camera, so you can decide whether to spend the 2:21 watching it.

Your job in a submission is to serve the project

Because clicking submit takes a second, it is easy to submit without care. The goal as an actor is to serve the project, so every submission should be judged by whether it helps casting fill the role or costs them time.

Read the whole breakdown before you click submit

Casting notices often list very specific needs, such as a special skill or a wardrobe requirement like providing your own uniform. Submitting when you do not have that skill or that uniform wastes casting's time and signals that you did not read the breakdown all the way through.

Do not submit for a self-tape you cannot deliver

Many breakdowns state up front that casting will be completed from self-tapes or from demo reels. If you are not set up to produce either one, take that into account before submitting rather than after you are asked for material.

Acting Craft is built by what casting looks for on an actor website.
