The Worst Actors That I've Worked With

When people find out that I'm an acting coach, they always ask me, "Who is the worst actor you've ever worked with? So, subscribe for more." No, I'm going to tell you, but don't forget to like and comment and subscribe. The worst actor I've worked with. I don't like to gossip. I try not to. And I find that almost all actors are my I just I love actors. They're wonderful and brave. So, I don't like to tear actors down, but here's a few. Let's call him Harry Handsome. Harry Handsome is so handsome that he doesn't in his life he doesn't have to have any charm. He doesn't have to learn how to hit on a woman or flirt to get anything he wants because he's so good-looking and a star that women just walk up to him and give him whatever he wants. People give him roles. He doesn't have to be the best actor because he looks the best on screen. Those people frustrate me because there's not really a desire to learn how to do this. Can you be too handsome to act? Of course not. There are so many insanely good-looking people who are the most talented. They don't take their looks for granted. They know to work for it and they understand our looks will fade. They will change. We will we will look different than we did in our 20s if we want to stick with the business. But this particular actor, and I'm thinking of one, but there's about three that I could include with uh Handsome Harry just don't understand the process. don't care to understand the process. They get what they want by showing up and being a good-looking dude or a beautiful girl. So, that's the first one. Then, I want to talk to you a little about lazy Lynn. So, sometimes they do understand how to work. They just don't want to put the effort in because again, they don't need to. They don't think they need to because they're getting hired anyway for whatever reason. Maybe it's their looks. Maybe it's their connections. Maybe it's that they and I'll talk a little bit about this in another person, but this can also be with Lazy Lynn because they have connections in other parts of the industry that are pertinent to the role that they're playing. They just don't bother. They don't bother to read the whole script. They don't bother to do your character breakdown. They might understand how to do it, but they don't know. They don't care. Let's talk about Steve Star. Steve Star is perhaps an athlete or a singer, a rapper or somebody who is doing something at a very high level in another industry. Quite often, by the way, because don't you start looking up who I work with because most of the people that you would think I'm talking about, I'm not. There are certain people I just adore working with that are celebrities, that are athletes, that are singers, that are and I adore them. But this is the person who has no idea how to even approach it. If you're not a star, people will oftentimes say that you're green, meaning that you're new to the business, that you're not fully formed, ripe, you're green, you're new. And so I had Steve Star who was in another industry say to me once when I was working with them, "Do you think that I should read the whole script?" Now, anybody who has studied with me knows that that is one of my biggest pet peeves. You must must must read the entire script. How in the world can you do a good job acting if you are only pulling from your sides? They call them sides that they give you in the morning. So Steve says, "Oh, you know, they hand me the lines I need to learn for that day." So they learn them on the day. Would you watch these movies that this person has been in and have any idea? No, I don't think you would because there's enough people around to support and make it look good. But now that the skill set that Steve is so good at is not needed for other movies, I'm not seeing Steve in any other movies. He did those movies. He did them adequately and now he's not working. What I want for my people, if they are celebrities or civilians or a star in another realm, I want people to say, "Whoa, I never knew they were such a good actor. Wow, that's I don't want them to be known as a great quarterback. I want them to be known as a great actor who used to be a quarterback. That's my goal always. Will they get opportunities?" Absolutely. So, let's talk about entitled Aaron. I like the name Aaron because it can be either gender. So, entitled Aaron might be an influencer, might be somebody who thinks that what they do is amazing and they are not interested in learning how to act or getting any notes. Which, by the way, if I'm hired, sometimes when I'm working on set, I'm hired by the actor more often than not. Sometimes I'm hired by the production. Sometimes it's it might be specific to a certain department or uh so I'm never hired hostily. I'm never hired because somebody doesn't want me there. So again, I love actors. If I'm hired for somebody who is not an actor and doesn't know what they're doing, I want to instill the love of acting in them. I want them to finish working with me and say, "That was so much fun." Which I have actually had working with people who said, "I love that." And I was like, "Yes." And he's they're like, "It should always be like that." And I'm like, "I agree. Let's make it always like that. Keep working with me." But entitled Aaron thinks because they have however million followers or whatever else is going on that people can wait for them on set. They don't have to show up when they're supposed to. They don't have to learn their lines. What sometimes actors do with that is they start changing the lines and that's their cover for not having learned the lines. And let me just caveat that most of these times these are not big celebrities because I know you guys are going to go trolling through and try to figure out who I'm talking about. People who make it for the most part care about it and they understand the craft whether they've worked with me or not. It careers are not flukes. They understand something in the business. But the entitlement I should be able to do this. This is how I've always done it. I don't want to do it this way. I don't want to learn an accent. I don't want to do period work. I don't want to work on my that I'm supposed to be cold or drunk or any of my sense memories. They'll fix that in post. An actor should never say they'll fix that in post. I mean, there might be some special effects that get to be or some visual effects that get to be fixed in post. the performance shouldn't be fixed and post. That's when we're going to have to worry about AI actors. I don't believe we need to worry about them right now, but that's when we're going to need to worry about them when people don't care about what it is that they put up. So, every actor at one point in their career is green. They don't know what they're doing or they're brand new to it. And if you can get back to that with somebody who already has, and a lot of times the actors who might be entitled, who might think that everything should be handed to them, a lot of these actors are scared. They're scared that they're going to get found out. They're scared that what they do that they don't know what they're doing as an actor. And so they overcompensate and they act like they know everything. And it really just comes from fear. I love actors so much. I don't want you to think this video is at all about tearing them down. So, what can we do? What can we do if maybe you're a huge huge star in one realm or you're brand new to it and somebody got you a leg up? How can you succeed and be one of th those actors that I work with who I love and adore? Be humble. go back to that humility that that that understanding that maybe I don't know everything. This is something new for me to learn. That curiosity, approaching it with a sense of curiosity, I think is important in so many aspects of life. If you already know it, why are you doing it? I hope that every actor learns something on every set, every role, everything that you do. Every day on set, you're going to learn something new. You're going to be curious. You're going to meet maybe a new actor. So, being humble, being curious, and being hardworking. Hard work always pays off. It always does. Reading the whole script. some of these things that we don't want to do. Learning an accent, doing it day in and day out so that it gets comfortable for you, that's hard work. Doing research, finding out how if you're looking at doing a period piece, looking at how people carried themselves, then there's just so many examples of ways that you can put in the work. And even if it never shows, working with an actor once who was playing a surfer, but in he never was seen surfing in the movie. Even if they never show you surfing, knowing how to surf when you're playing a surfer is going to pay off. I promise you, in the way that you carry yourself, there's no reason to cut corners. One of my favorite stories, I think it was Gary Oldman in uh JFK. He was playing Lee Harvey Oswald. You never see him speaking in Russian, but the story is he learned Russian. He learned Russian and never had to speak Russian. That level of dedication for an actor is fantastic. It won't hurt you to learn the language that your character speaks. Even if you don't speak in it in the movie, there are so many examples of things like that of actors going above and beyond. It's never going to hurt you. The extra preparation is never going to hurt you. Can you be overrehearsed? Sometimes, but rehearsal, running lines, memorization, that is the last thing that actors are going to do. The actor's process starts with their character and their character work. All actors can learn and grow and get better. And the good thing is the ones that I don't want to work with very often I don't work with because they're not interested in learning how to act. They want to be a celebrity.
