Pick the casting site that matches your goal
Every casting website does something better than the others. Decide first whether you are chasing commercials, short and student films to build a reel, or print work, then choose the site that serves that goal instead of spreading yourself across all of them.
Write your restrictions down before you start scrolling
Clear restrictions let you skip breakdowns fast instead of deliberating on each one. Examples given: no infomercials, no commercials below a certain pay rate, no roles involving eating meat if you do not eat meat. Having it written down matters because you are often submitting while multitasking.
A fixed schedule turns submitting into a habit rather than something you fit in when you remember. At minimum, check breakdowns each night before going to bed.
Send breakdowns to their own folder or email address
Filter breakdown and audition notice emails into a separate folder, or set up a dedicated email account for them. Keeping them out of your general inbox speeds up the pass and protects your head space when you sit down for your scheduled submission block.
If the time is not there, someone else can run your submissions for you, and it can be a better use of your time and more cost effective. This works best once your restrictions are already written down, so the person submitting knows what to skip.
Keep a record of each submission: the website you used, the project and role details, and which headshot you sent. Over time that record shows you which casting websites are actually returning auditions.

Are you trying to get into commercials? Would you like to build your Demo Reel with short film or student films, or would you prefer print work? All of this matters when you are considering which casting website is best for you. Number two, set restrictions. Restrictions will allow you to get through your self submissions quicker. Write it down because sometimes you're not sure or you might be busy. You might be checking your self submissions while you're doing other things happens all the time. We are multitaskers, so get very clear. Do not want to do infomercials? Do not want to work commercials below a certain pay rate? 01:45 Do you not eat meat? Knowing your specific restrictions, setting them, writing them down, will give you a resource to use as you go through self submissions and will help you get through them quicker. Three, set a schedule, checking yourself submissions at the same time. Number four, filter your breakdowns into another folder in your email account or create a separate email account altogether. Separating your breakdowns will allow you to go through your breakdowns a lot quicker and it will really help your mind space so you're not mixing your breakdowns and audition notices with other emails and it's a lot more convenient after you set that schedule that you can set time aside to just go through your self 02:38 submission. Number five, delegate them. If you just don't have the time, allow someone else to do your self submissions. It doesn't have to be us, but if you have a parent or an assistant that can help you, this will be useful, especially if you set those restrictions. It might be a better use of your time just to allow someone else to do your self submissions for you and it may be more cost effective. So delegating your self submissions will definitely save you a lot of time.
