How to audit an existing casting profile using your submission results, label your reel clips by role type and build relationships with the people casting your type.

5 Things Actors Should Know About Strengthening an Online Casting Profile

Drawn from what is actually said on camera, so you can decide whether to spend the 2:53 watching it.

Check that your headshot matches the type you are selling

Once the profile is live with headshots, reel and submissions going out, go back and confirm you are clear about your type. Ask whether the headshot actually reflects what you are selling, and whether it has been bringing in auditions for that type.

Use your submission data to decide what to replace

A few weeks of tracked submissions will show what is working. If you keep submitting for a role type that genuinely matches your casting but the headshot is not strong enough for it, that is your signal to shoot new images.

Break the reel into clips and label them by character

Split the demo reel into separate, well labeled clips so a stranger could submit you from them. Label by the role: the good cop, the comedic sidekick, the quirky best friend, the well-intentioned wife. Casting has limited time and the labels tell them what to watch.

Know which filmmakers and casting directors cast your type

Identify the people who cast your type most often and work on building relationships with them. When you submit to their breakdowns you are a known and trusted name rather than a blind submission, which makes them more likely to bring you in.

Acting Craft is built by what casting looks for on an actor website.
