Joining every casting site is not the plan

There are so many casting websites that paying for all of them gets expensive fast. Most working actors are only on a few. The real question is not how many you carry but whether the two or three you pay for are the right ones for you.

Name your goal before you pick a service

Start with why you are self submitting at all. More auditions, footage for a demo reel, and paid work are three different goals, and some sites serve one better than another. Pick the site that matches the goal you actually have right now.

Decide what work you will actually accept

Be honest about student films, theater, and unpaid projects before you subscribe anywhere. If a site is full of work you would turn down, the membership is doing nothing for you.

Union status narrows the field further

If you are union, decide whether you work under a waiver or take non-union jobs. That answer changes which breakdowns are even usable to you, and therefore which service is worth paying for.

Sites specialize, so match the listings to your list

Each casting website tends to post more of certain project types than others. Once you know your goal, your acceptable work, and your union status, compare that list against what a site actually carries before you hand over the fee.
