How to work out whether a casting site subscription is paying off, using submissions, auditions and a simple percentage.

5 Things Actors Should Know About Measuring Return on Casting Site Subscriptions

Drawn from what is actually said on camera, so you can decide whether to spend the 2:47 watching it.

Judge each casting site by auditions per submission

Return on investment tells you whether the subscription fee is earning its keep. The calculation is simple: divide the number of auditions you got from a site by the number of submissions you made there. Do it per site, not across all of them at once.

One to two auditions per 50 to 100 submissions is normal

That works out to a return of roughly 1% to 4%, and while the number sounds small, it is the baseline you should expect at minimum. Anything above that range is excellent. Below it, the site or your profile needs attention.

Track submissions daily, per site

Log how many submissions you make each day to each casting website, then log the auditions, callbacks and bookings that came out of them. Writing the numbers down forces you to be honest about how much you are actually submitting each day and each week.

Get specific on type and brand before you count anything

Know your type clearly, know who usually casts that type, and aim your submissions at those people specifically and strategically. Submitting with a vague brand skews the numbers before you ever calculate them.

A weak return is a signal to change the profile, not just quit

If you are under 1% to 4%, or you are simply unhappy sitting at that rate, adjust elements of your profile to raise your chances. Also weigh the kind of auditions you are getting, not only the count, when deciding if a subscription is worth renewing.
